Mary Adhiambo was born on October 7, 2013. She joined CGA nursery class in January 2019. She is the fourth child of five. Her mother died after the death of her youngest brother. Her father could not take care of them because of his poor health and lack of source of income. Her aunt who is a widow decided to take Mary with her four siblings to her home. Her aunt has four children of her own who she cares for. She sells vegetables and firewood to help support all the orphans in her home. She lives in a two bedroom permanent house. Mary shares bedding with other siblings. They sleep on mats on the floor. They have no electricity or running water. They treat lake water for drinking and do the cleaning at the lake. They use paraffin for lighting. The home is about a 10 minute walk to the roads and shops and a 45 minute walk to CGA. Mary has never been to any school. We hope and trust she will do well at CGA. 2021 Update: Mary currently weighs 29kgs, and is 1.48 metres tall. They have a new tin house in their compound in their house which serves as a kitchen, and some extra space for children to sleep. They also got a donation of a water tank from a local organization to help with rain water harvesting. 2024 Update: Mary is an outgoing girl and is quite playful! She performs average in class and loves sports activities in school. Mary's younger brother joined CGA in 2023 and she is happy to have two of her siblings attend the same school. She currently weighs 39 kgs and is 164.4 cms tall.
