Scovia Auma Makongo was born on August 21, 2014. She joined CGA nursery class in January 2019. She is the fifth child in their family. Her mother died due to rabies. Her father is a widower. His first wife died and left 6 children to care. He does not have a job and so he could not support all his 12 children. This forced Scovia and her older siblings to come and stay with their maternal grandparents. The home is situated about 2 kilometers from CGA in the hilly areas of Mbita. They live in a temporary house of their grandparents. Scovia sleeps on a mat on the dirt floor with her siblings. They use firewood for cooking outside the house and use paraffin for lighting. They go to shops at the fishing center about 20 minutes walk. They get water from the lake and boil for drinking. They do their washing at the lake which is about 20 minutes walk. The grandfather is a casual laborer. Scovia has never been to another school. We believe she will do well at CGA. 2021 Update: Scovia's grandmother got some casual job at a neighboring fish farm which has been quite helpful to her. 2024 Update: Scovia is generally a quite girl but fun to be around! She walks to school with her elder brother who is in seventh grade and rarely misses school. She lost her maternal grandfather in mid-2024.
