Even though Wedson’s family faces the harsh realities of extreme poverty, his teachers describe him as courageous. He lives in Luly, a small, impoverished fishing village along Haiti’s western coast, with his mom, one brother, and three sisters. His mother works tirelessly to care for her children, but the instability and hardships in Haiti make daily life a constant struggle.

Without the means to afford tuition for all her children, Wedson’s mother has been forced to make the heartbreaking decision to send them to school in turns. This has left Wedson behind in his education.
