About this Fundraiser

Hello to any and all,

My name is Lily Clark, I am 17 years old and I have been serving with Westside kids for a year and a half. The children in this program never fail to bring so much joy to those around them, and that has brought me so much encouragement to do the same! When I first heard about this opportunity to go serve in Zimbabwe, I immediately felt called to be a part of this team. He has given me a heart to serve and to love people, and it has been so incredible to see all the wonder and beauty that every single human has to offer, all it takes is a little time and patience to get to know someone.

I think the question people ask most often when they hear about people spending crazy amounts of money to travel to another country to serve and help, even if it means just loving a few people, is just simply why? Which I understand, I get how that may seem kind of absurd. At the same time, I also don’t get how that doesn’t seem like the most beautiful thing! Living in the society and the culture we do, it is so easy to become so absorbed in our own needs, but that isn’t what Jesus has planned.

Our life here on Earth is so incredibly short, and the majority waste that time trying to get to the top. Jesus came and he spent his time at the bottom, down in the dirt, getting covered in mud and dust, spending his time with the people who hadn’t known anything else but the dirt. He washed feet and he loved the unloved, and people didn’t get him! They thought he was crazy, and he kind of was. And I am more than willing to spend the rest of my life going out on crazy adventures with nothing but lots of faith in Jesus.

“Once everyone starts looking at each other like brother, like sister, like human beings, beauty will spread like wildfire.”

This Spring we will be sending a team consisting of current Westside Kids Leaders to serve and minister to orphans and children who have come from hard places. Zimbabwe has the most orphans per capita in the world with 1.8 million of the 14 million population orphaned. This trip will consist of continuing to build on the relationships Hear the Cry has established with the 60 kids it sponsors along with connecting with other children, pastors, and projects in the community surrounding Harare, the nations capital. The team will minister through providing the kids skills training camps, hosting VBS, and encouraging and blessing the aunties who take care of the homes 24/7. Nearly 100% of the work and time on this trip is compassionate care work with orphans. This trip serves as a way to pour love into children who have each been through incredible amounts of trauma and loss and allow them to play, laugh, and be kids.
