Laundry Love seeks to bring economic relief by giving the individual or family the option to redirect funds toward food, medical, gas or transportation costs as well as school supplies and other basic, everyday necessities.

The Laundry Love initiative consists of regular opportunities to help people who are struggling financially by assisting them with doing their laundry. For those living below the poverty line, washing clothes presents both a logistical problem and a financial hardship. Laundry Love partners with local laundromats in cleaning the clothes of those living in shelters, motels, cars, garages and on the streets.

I recently moved to Topeka, Kansas from Salina. I was inspired by the idea that Salina, KS had a Laundry Love that went around to the three laundromats once a month and helped families with quarters, detergent in order for families to be able to wash and dry and have clean clothes. I thought that was a wonderful idea and would love to see that idea take place in the Capital City of Kansas. Not only was quarters and laundry detergent provided, but the local Catholic Charities was on hand to help those in need with daily hygiene, toiletries and food items and offered information to those that may not have been aware of assistance they could seek. The volunteers were amazing and friendly. Volunteers spent time fixing and serving a hot meal, donuts, juice, fresh fruit and or sandwiches during the days and times that Laundry Love helped those that were washing and drying their laundry. It was great to see so many come together as one and help a community with the basic necessity of being able to have clean laundry. Friendships were made.
