Stowers Adoption

What's the deal?We have felt called to adoption since before we were married, and we are thrilled to take the steps toward bringing a little one in...
We have an update on the grants we applied for, and it's great news!We applied to five different grant organizations, and got grants from four of those organizations in different amounts - it's such a blessing, and now we're actually really close to our goal! One of the grants is in partnership with Robert's parents' church, and is a matching grant. If you're interested in being a part of that, ...
We've been radio silent for a while - thanks to the crazy mess of paperwork that comes from trying to get our home study in the mail and reviewed by our agency. Seriously...it took over two months, which was pretty frustrating, but at least now it's mostly settled. Our next task is taking on the creation of our profile and video. Luckily, I love InDesign, and that will be my project for the nex...
Here's the newest news from us.-We had our intake meeting with our agency, and got another packet of paperwork (seems like it never ends) off to them. We're waiting on their review of our home study (since it was done by another agency), and then we'll have our profile meeting, which is where we'll get more direction on what we need to build for our public profile (there's a video that I'm not ...
We finally received our completed home study! Yay! So, what does this mean for us?1. We can send off all our grant applications (we've had about 5 ready to send off, but were waiting on the home study). 2. We can actually start working with a placing agency. We did lots of talking and thinking, and have applied to work with an agency that's based in Pennsylvania. They checked the most "boxes" o...
A little after-holiday update from us (bullet pointed)-Still waiting on getting our final home study write up from our social worker (she'd said early Jan, so hopefully we'll get it soon!)-Over the break, we started working on grant applications (those things are no joke!), but we need to have our home study done before we can officially apply.-We've narrowed down our agency choices to three op...
We had our final home study visit last week, and it went well! Rhonda, our social worker, asked questions about our neighborhood, our building, and where things were located in our house. It was probably the easiest of our three interviews, and we were glad to have it done! Now, we're waiting on Rhonda to write up her report about us - that's the completed home study. Once we have that, we can s...
Here's a catch-up update! Home study meeting #1 went well. We met at my office and talked about things like how we met, what we do for fun (this made me feel boring), and what kind of support systems we have. It seemed like a conversation that we would have with a new friend - fairly straightforward.Yesterday we had our second meeting (at the Bethany office), and Robert and I were interviewed s...
This week kicks off our first home study meeting! We'll be meeting with our social worker on Friday for our first of three interviews. This first meeting is on "neutral ground" :) and then we'll have an in-home meeting. We'd appreciate your thoughts and prayers! We're also almost 10% of the way to our fundraising goal thanks to such sweet support from friends. You mean the world to us!
10/8: Our home study paperwork is mailed off! Whoop whoop! Next steps are that the home study agency reviews our paperwork, then schedules our three meetings with our case worker. Once those three meetings are done, we're set to move forward in applying for grants and can have our profile shown to birthparents. We still are considering a couple of options of either a consultant or agency as we ...
